While there are certainly government regulations that can complicate and even hinder a legacy plan, there are also some “good” regulations, too.
For example, government regulations say that we can bequeath currently up to $11.4 million in total to all beneficiaries without paying any income, estate or gift taxes at the point of transfer. And we can gift money annually up to $15,000 per individual ($30,000 to each individual from a married couple) with no tax implications. That bodes well for our legacy planning, especially if those bequeathed or gifted assets were in a form that would shield our beneficiaries from any future taxes, too.
